A Heritage Centre to celebrate our beginnings.

Oihi in the Bay of Islands is one of Aotearoa New Zealand’s most important sites. Nearly 200 years ago in this bay, two peoples first began a relationship of mutual respect, acknowledgement and reciprocity. The real essence of our nation was born here. Each of our cultures has grown as a result of this relationship, and now all New Zealanders identify with a country that is different to any other on Earth.

In celebration of this beginning, we want to acknowledge the spirituality of the land where this took place as a gift to all the peoples of our nation.

Oihi provides an invitation for all people to participate in our future, in a mutual relationship with the land of Aotearoa New Zealand.
